Why I Really Appreciate Where I Live...

I was not born and raised where I currently live.  I actually came here when I was 18 years old and started attending University.  Eventually, I brought the Pixie Household here.  And while I admit that I don't want to live here for the rest of my life, I do appreciate what this little city and fabulous region has to offer. We have extremely large cities to the north and south of us.  To the east is mountains.  To the west is the Pacific - full of fabulous islands.  We have rivers, lakes, and the ocean.  And we have trees... Lots of trees.

This is the little city the Pixie household lives in - taken from across the bay. Built into the side of a mini-mountain, near a real mountain, and holding a fabulous view of sunsets, islands, and blue Pacific waters, this little city hosts a university, two colleges, and an assorted array of artsy-fartsy types.

This is the bigger mountain I was referring to earlier.  Gorgeous.  I always refer to it as a "she" but Native American legends say it is a "he."

And then we have the fabulous San Juan Islands.  In the above photo, you can see the islands in the background.  I love that there are these old pilings that were used to create some sort of barrier.  You see these things all over.  Even better? Often, such as in this image, you see bird houses.  I appreciate that someone took the time to walk out on there, most likely during low tide, to put up those little homes for birds.

What about you, Pixie Pals? What is it that you appreciate about where you live?

  1. I like this. I appreciate that I live in a city that is vibrant and full of life, but that I live in a quieter corner of it with a real sense of community and movement and vitality. I appreciate the parks and the Thames and the closeness to things. Its also not where I want to be forever but its great to be somewhere with so much going on for now.

  2. It's very beautiful - the benefits of a city, surrounded by nature.

Are the pilings for beach conservation? Scotland has similar ones, used to stop the sea eroding the beaches quite so quickly.
